Characters: Eleanor Whitcombe, educated daughter of a Boston bookseller who becomes a mail-order bride. Jacob Carter, former Union cavalry scout turned rancher in Montana Territory. Katherine (“Katie”) Oleson, an orphan train rider who Eleanor meets along the way.
Synopsis:
Eleanor Whitcombe grew up as the only daughter of a widowed Boston bookseller. When her father dies, leaving her in a precarious financial and social situation, she accepts an invitation to become a mail-order bride in Montana Territory. As Eleanor journeys alone into the unknown, she’ll face unknown challenges with her new husband, the frontier town, and a young orphan girl she meets on the train.
Will Eleanor be able to build a life for herself in the West?
This story is told in twenty-four installments, each filled with letters, postcards, recipe cards, newspaper clippings, and other documents. It pulls readers into the heart of the American West in the 1880s, when frontier men, women, and children overcame loss, faced off against outlaws, and carved a future out of the open prairie.
